Every work of art has a story and so does every artist. This is the story of Cuz Costé, who has been creating art and living her life as a painter for over twenty-five years. Born in Switzerland, hers is a biography filled with art schools, degrees, teaching, exhibitions and judging, interlaced with intense and passionate periods of meditation, creation and discovery. Her work has been exhibited in countless shows, has won many awards, and is now shown in public and private collections across three continents.

An abstract expressionistic painter, she captures an excitement of the senses that leads us into light dances and shades of color that all happen in an intensely filled silence -- as she puts it, "a space that I see as a means to inspire others to view a different reality, by interacting with my paintings.

I want to express the ever-moving, ever-changing aspect of life. As Picasso once said, '...Art makes me feel more aware of the fact that I'm alive.' "

Although Cuz has been riding horses for 35 years, it is only in the last 8 years, during her time in Arizona in fact, that horses have become an immensely important part of her energy/art studies.

"Everything that I ever experienced and was searching for in art is what horses are! It feels as though I am on a journey to deeply connect and express myself through horses. They are highly sensitive instruments. It is a daily discovery of becoming more present with them. They are at all moments white canvases with the potential of becoming the most fabulous and touching painting in existence."

Over the past year, Cuz has been using the feel and shape of horses to express their invisible energy in its ever changing and ever moving aspect.

She lives with her four horses and dog Jimmeney on a ranch in Arizona.

Cuz's work and journeys have taken her from Switzerland, across Europe and into Spain, which was her home base for over twenty years. During her tenure there, she performed volunteer work for over two years in a Birds of Prey Center. The beauty, energy and intense awareness of the great birds -- especially the eagles -- began to inspire her artwork and award-winning photographs, and have ever since.

Her work allows observers to play with their own perceptions of light, color and energy. "My colors aren't literal. I choose them based on the feelings or senses I'm trying to relate...."

In order to become more aligned with the forces that seem to guide her work, Cuz practices a Zen-like ritual of deep meditation before beginning any work. With her supple fingers and patient gaze, she carefully transforms her senses into breathtaking physical works that hold the observer's eye and ignite the imagination.
